One Act Festival Auditions! 


​Theatre artists are creative and as such we will respond to the constructs of COVID 19 with creativity and use the precautions as the structure of our production. The winter play will be a One Act Festival comprising of 5 separate one acts. 

​Please review this page for more information about auditions, COVID precautions, etc.  

The constructs of the play are as follows: 
  • We will cast 5 separate one acts. 
  • Students will only be cast in 1 One Act play as a technician or actor. 
  • Each One Act will rehearse one day a week. They must be present for each of these rehearsals, please see the schedule here! 
  • The actors and technicians will not ever be a part of a rehearsal that they are not in. 
  • We will have a cast of 10 or fewer actors and technicians for each piece.
  • We will have two staff members present, Amie Kisling and Cassady Gorrell. 
  • No set, props or costumes will be shared between one acts.  
  • Students will wear cloth masks/face coverings at all times in rehearsal. 
  • Students will not wear face covering tech week rehearsal and in the recording of the pieces. 
  • We will record each of the one acts January 15th (unless we have to push it back due to Covid-19) 
  • There will be no live audience.

Auditions: We will be holding ZOOM Auditions on October 26, 27 and 28.
 
You will submit your choice(s) for auditions on the Audition Google Form and we will email you the link the day of the audition. You do not need to prepare anything for the audition. We will do a variety of cold readings from each of the scripts. 


October 26 - 6:00 - 8:00 : Comedy Auditions 
October 27 - 3:20 - 5:15 : Drama Auditions 
October 28 - 12:30 - 2:20 : Comedy Auditions 
October 28 - 2:30 - 4:20 : Drama Auditions

If students are only interested in auditioning for one of the comedies, they only need to attend one of the offered times, the same is true for drama. If they are interested in auditioning for both comedies and dramas, they need to plan to attend two different times.

Callbacks: 
We will post the callback list on October 28th at 5:00 for those we need to see at the Callbacks on October 29th and 30th from 3:30 - 7:00.

Tech Applications Due: Monday, October 28th by 5:00 pm
  • Technicians must complete a form HERE. 
  • You may apply to be a technician AND audition to be in the show. 

Cast list will be posted via remind on  Monday, November 2nd at 3:15.

We will cast 5 of these 7 shows. 

The Girl Who Was Asked to Turn Blue  by Ev Miller 
Drama; 7 Any Gender Actors (Tracey can also be male), Stage Manager, Asst. Stage Manager

Tracey Logan, a girl of 16, finds herself unexpectedly in a world where everyone is blue. Not only are all the other teenagers dressed in blue and have blue skin, but they have numbers instead of names. Tracey begins to ask some pointed questions, and it becomes obvious that they evolved through a period of time that was similar to our society. Tracey is told that she, too, must turn blue in order to fit into this blue society. She must decide whether to maintain her individuality and become an outcast or to turn blue and become accepted by the others. A story of the choices concerning conformity and individuality that we all must make, this new play is written with two endings. The director may choose either to present to the audience. Whichever is chosen, many questions will certainly arise about a society that expects complete conformity from its members.

The Zoo Story by Edward Albee
Drama; 2 Male Actors, Stage Manager, Asst. Stage Manager

A man sits peacefully reading in the sunlight in Central Park. There enters a second man. He is a young, unkempt and undisciplined vagrant where the first is neat, ordered, well-to-do and conventional. The vagrant is a soul in torture and rebellion. He longs to communicate so fiercely that he frightens and repels his listener. He is a man drained of all hope who, in his passion for company, seeks to drain his companion. With provocative humor and unrelenting suspense, the young savage slowly, but relentlessly, brings his victim down to his own atavistic level as he relates a story about his visit to the zoo. 

Antigone Now by Melissa Cooper
Drama; 3-5 Females, 1 Male, Stage Manager, Asst. Stage Manager 

In the midst of a bombed-out city still feeling the aftershocks of war, the rebellious and intense Antigone defies her uncle to bury her disgraced brother. This contemporary response to the myth of Antigone brings powerful, modern prose to an ancient and universal story.

A Game  by Dennis Noble 
Farce/Drama; 4 Any Gender Actors, Stage Manager, Asst. Stage Manager

Three men (or women) accept an invitation to take part in an experiment—a game in which a small room is divided into three equal areas—one for each person. At intervals they recite a slogan: "This is my land. It is mine. It is beautiful, and it is mine." As the game progresses, we see the drive that makes each human want to possess more than his neighbors—a drive that causes hatred ... and starts wars. When this play was published, Dennis E. Noble was a Shubert Playwriting Fellow and Ph. D. candidate at the University of Colorado. Noble had this to say about his play: "A Game begins as farce and ends in deadly earnest. I realize that it is unusual to shift from one mood completely to its opposite, but it was in this move from comic to the serious that I hoped to keep the characters simple in order to hinder emotional identification with them. The characters exist in this play in the service of an idea, and I wished that the dramatization of that idea would strike the viewer hard. And it is in the violent impact of the ending that I hoped the viewer would share Dr. Henning's confusion, and complain as does he: 'But it's only a game!' And it is a game, this playing with nationalism. But it is a deadly game—it kills." In this script—which can be staged simply or with multimedia effects—Noble has combined fantastical elements of the "theatre of the absurd" with realistic aspects of the traditional theatre to produce a play with a powerful impact.

The Proposal by Anton Chekov 
Comedy; 2 Male and 1 Female Actors, Stage Manager, Asst. Stage Manager 

Ivan Vasilyevich Lomov, a long-time neighbor of Stepan Stepanovich Chubukov, has come to propose marriage to Chubukov's 25-year-old daughter, Natalia. After he has asked and received joyful permission to marry Natalia, she is invited into the room, and he tries to convey to her the proposal.

The Actor’s Nightmare by Christopher Durang
Comedy; 2 Male and 3 Female Actors, Stage Manager, Asst. Stage Manager

Having casually wandered onstage, George is informed that one of the actors, Eddie, has been in an auto accident and he must replace him immediately. Apparently no one is sure of what play is being performed but George (costumed as Hamlet) seems to find himself in the middle of a scene from Private Lives, surrounded by such luminaries as Sarah Siddons, Dame Ellen Terry and Henry Irving. As he fumbles through one missed cue after another the other actors shift to Hamlet, then a play by Samuel Beckett, and then a climactic scene from what might well be A Man for All Seasons—by which time the disconcerted George has lost all sense of contact with his fellow performers. Yet, in the closing moments of the play, he rises to the occasion and finally says the right lines, whereupon make-believe suddenly gives way to reality as the executioner’s axe (meant for Sir Thomas Moore) instead sends poor George to oblivion—denying him a well-earned curtain call.

Check Please by Jonathan Rand 
Comedy; 2 Male, 2 Female Actors, Stage Manager, Asst. Stage Manager 

Dating can be hard. Especially when your date happens to be a raging kleptomaniac, or your grandmother's bridge partner, or a mime. Check Please follows a series of blind dinner dates that couldn't get any worse -- until they do. Could there possibly be a light at the end of the tunnel?
